Summary


A late-C18 detached lodge, altered in the C20.

Description


MATERIALS: painted limestone ashlar with a slate roof.

PLAN: a wide-gabled, shallow front block, with a two stage lower rear wing, hipped to the outer end.

EXTERIOR: fully rusticated, two storey front with two windows to each floor, which are two light casements with transom and rectangular leading, set under deep plain lintels, with a small square central light at first floor level set in a sunk panel, above a C20 glazed door with hood. The coped front gable has shoulders to shaped kneelers, and a square slab finial. The short returns are plain rendered.

INTERIOR: not inspected.

History


Westfield Lodge appears to date from the late C18 and was originally a detached lodge to Westfield House which was constructed in c.1730.

* Architectural interest: as a late-C18 former lodge with a symmetrical principal elevation and rusticated stonework;
* Group value: with the Grade II listed Westfield House, with which it was associated.
