Description


Former works, part of a worsted spinning and dyeing complex. Dated 1914. By Harding and Toppott of Leicester for W.P.Skevington. Red brick and glazed brick with reinforced concrete frame. Cast concrete decoration. Classical style. 4 storeys. 5-window range at 1st and 2nd floors of paired and recessed 6/6 sashes with band of decoration between. 10 4/4 sashes to 3rd floor with dentil cornice and parapet above. Ground floor which has glazed brick walling has entry doors to left, windows to right and a central entrance in round-arched frame with cartouche inscribed AD 1914. Monumental brackets support a band running along the front. Left side has blind brick panels and right side has fenestration similar to the front.
Interior not inspected.
This well-detailed building was added in 1914 as an extension to the Frisby Jarvis Building (q.v.). It forms with the main part and with the Slater Street School (q.v.) a significant group in this part of Leicester.
