Description

Probably earlier 19th century. Single storey, 3-bay, symmetrical, harled rubble cottage with small lean-to outshot with catslide roof to rear. Boulder base. Central half-glazed timber-boarded front door with flanking windows to front elevation; gablehead stacks; small window to W gable; timber-boarded back door to outshot; some rooflights to rear elevation.

12-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows. Coped stacks with yellow clay cans. Graded grey Scottish slate.

Statement of Interest

A small, traditional and little-altered cottage occupying a picturesque and relatively prominent position on the road out of Clova. A late 18th century map shows a group of 5 cottages grouped around the road at roughly this location, but the style of this cottage suggests a slightly later date than that: probably 1820s or 1830s. The old OS maps show the cottage with a long steading range behind it, which no longer stands.
