Description

J J Stevenson, architect, 1892 (dated), (assisted by H
Walker of Fairlie) incorporating former school of circa
1830-40. 2-storey L-plan gabled hall with 2-bay porch at
north, single storey lesser hall adjoins at south. Coursed
and squared red or white rubble with yellow ashlar
dressings. West elevation: door and window in porch at left;
hall has square-headed tripartites in advanced and gabled
broad left bay; ground floor window has ogival tracery (blind
inner lights) all other ground floor window-heads ogival;
square-headed bipartites above and string between floors of
remaining bays. Tall off-centre stepped stack with
projecting chimney breast and octagonal flue. Eaves band;
skews; axial ventilator. Lesser hall has canted west
front, 3 bays with ogival window heads; faceted roof;
ogival-headed door in linking bay. Slated roofs.
