Circa 1800. 2-storey, 3-bay, rectangular-plan, piend-roofed house with bowed storm gable and single storey wing. Dry-dash with raised painted stone margins and quoins. Stone mullions.
W (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: symmetrical. Advanced bowed gable to centre with pedimented and pilastered doorpiece, deep-set 2-leaf boarded timber door and small-pane fanlight, Venetian window to 1st floor giving way to small gablehead stack. Flanking bays each with later bipartite window to ground and single window above. Slightly recessed single storey bay to outer left with modern French window and 4-pane fanlight to centre.
E ELEVATION: centre bay with full-height round stair tower with window, irregular fenestration in bay to right and single storey bay beyond. Projecting bay to left of centre with modern door in lower flat-roofed extension.
N (LEVEN ROAD) ELEVATION: 2 windows to single storey wing with dominant wallhead stack behind.
S ELEVATION: modern glazed door to centre bay at ground, dominant wallhead stack above and window to each floor of extension to outer right.
12-pane lying-pattern glazing with decoratively-astragalled top centre light to Venetian window; 4-, 12- and 15-pane glazing patterns in timber sash and case windows; plate glass glazing in top-opening timber windows to extension and stair window. Slates. Grouped octagonal stacks on shouldered bases, and banded corniced single stack.
INTERIOR: plain cornicing and many original doors retained. Decoratively-astragalled fanlight to pilastered screen door; turnpike stair with decorative cast-iron balusters and timber handrail. 1st floor with bowed hallway.
BOUNDARY WALLS AND GATEPIERS: high coped rubble boundary walls with flat-coped square-section ashlar gatepiers.
During the 19th century, Kenmont was the home of novelist Mrs Johnstone, a friend of Sir Walter Scott.
