Description

Early 19th century. Single storey, 6-bay, rectangular-plan former hearse house (see Notes). Rubble with dressed ashlar quoins.

NE (COURTYARD) ELEVATION: wide 2-leaf door to centre with door in bay to left and window to outer left, further window to right of centre with 2 doors beyond, all doors boarded timber.

SE (KIRK WYND) ELEVATION: gabled elevation with large 2-leaf boarded timber door.

12-pane glazing pattern in timber sash and case windows. Grey slates. Coped ashlar stacks with cans; plain bargeboarding.

CARTSHED AND GRANARY: reconstructed 4-bay cartshed and granary to NW.

BOUNDARY WALLS: coped rubble boundary walls.

Statement of Interest

Property of the National Trust for Scotland. As part of the NTS Angus Folk Museum's Agricultural Section, the hearse house interior has been converted to a traditional bothy, and with the cartshed and granary form a courtyard with a further harled range to the NE.
