W N Thomson, 1895. 4-storey irregular-plan asymmetrical Baronial corner tenement with corner turret and shops at ground floor. Red sandstone to ground floor (now painted), NW and first 2 bays of NE elevation with ashlar to ground floor, squared and snecked rubble above with ashlar dressings, render to rear and sides with sandstone dressings. Chamfered reveals to ground floor openings; rounded reveals above; crowstepped gables and dormers with corbelled skewputts.
NW (SHORE) ELEVATION: asymmetrical gable; 5-bay including corner turret. 2 large rectangular openings at ground floor (now partly infilled). Doorway (now blocked window) in splayed corner to outer left, above 3-storey corner turret corbelled off-centre to right,
3 windows at 1st and 2nd floor, 3rd floor with single window breaking eaves with parapet of ashlar panels divided by turned ashlar balusters. Narrow windows to centre bay. Bay to left of centre blank. Bay to right of centre with single windows. Bay to outer right with curved corner at ground (small secondary doorway) and 1st floor; single windows; bowed bartizan corbelled above 1st floor with finialled conical roof.
NE (BURGESS STREET) ELEVATION: 6-bay (excluding corner turret). Blocked and altered shop openings at ground floor; common stair doorway off-centre to left with panelled door and plate glass fanlight.
2 gabled centre bays with single windows and corbel courses at 1st and 2nd floor. Bay to right of centre with single windows, those above 1st floor in gabled corbelled ashlar panel. Bay to outer right blank with cross-sectioned shouldered ashlar wallhead stack corbelled in 3 steps (rendered above wallhead). To left wallhead rises to allow for extra floor. Bay to left of centre taller stair window with shallow ball-finialled pediment; single windows above with 4th floor window breaking eaves in gabled dormerhead. Bay to outer left with 2 small windows at 1st floor; single windows above; 4th floor windows with gablehead as above.
2-storey gabled wing with single window to outer left.
SE ELEVATION: 2-bay; single windows to left bay, 4th floor window breaking eaves in gabled dormerhead. Wallhead stack to right bay.
SW (REAR) ELEVATION: blank with small wallhead stack; remains of adjoining party walls.
Timber sash and case windows, 6-pane upper sashes, plate glass lower sashes. Slate roof with metal flashings, mansard to SE portion;
3 wallhead stacks (see above), transverse stacks. Crowstepped ashlar skews, corbelled skewputts.
INTERIOR: not seen 1993.
