Dated and signed James Simpson, 1891. Exuberant 4-storey corner tenement with curved corner oriel and shops at ground and part of 1st floor. Red sandstone, polished ashlar to front elevations, squared and snecked cream rubble with red dressings to rear. Base course; cornice above ground (broken by small pediments) and 1st floor; cill course at 2nd and 3rd floor with bracketted cills; rusticated stylised quoins; large shoulder-arched display openings at ground and 1st floor divided by timber mullions (nook-shafts at ground floor); taller 1st floor windows divided by moulded pilasters with foliate impost band and carved heraldic shields; 3rd floor windows breaking eaves in pedimented dormerheads with star insets and boldly carved ashlar finials; ashlar mullions.
NE (THE SHORE) ELEVATION: 3-bay including curved corner bay to outer left; broad doorway in chamfered angle, 3-storey curved oriel corbelled at 1st floor with tripartite windows, ogival finialled roof with partly polychrome fishscale slating and weathervane. Bay to centre with single windows and shaped dormerhead. Right bay with bipartite windows and semi-circular shell pediment.
SE (HENDERSON STREET) ELEVATION: 4-bay; shop window to centre former pend. Above, bay to left of centre with bipartite windows and semi-circular shell pediment. Bays to right of centre and outer left with single windows and shaped pediments. Blank bay to outer right, date stone panel at 2nd floor with semi-circular pediment and strapwork apron.
NW ELEVATION: gabled flank with broad asymmetrical apex stack; single and paired windows and broad wallhead stack. 2- and single storey flat-roofed brick-built extension with round-headed windows in re-entrant angle.
4-pane timber sash and case windows. Slate roof with metal flashings; apex and wallhead stack (see above) , mutual stacks. Moulded eaves gutters, gutterheads and brackets.
INTERIOR: principal rooms at 1st floor with elaborate cornices and compartmental ceiling.
Conceived and built as homogeneous design with Nos 73-81 Henderson Street.
