Description

Later 19th century, with circa 1900 additions. Single storey and attic villa. Stugged, squared, snecked cream sandstone, ashlar dressings. Base course; ashlar mullioned windows; cornice.

N (ARGYLE STREET WEST/ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: recessed porch at centre, screened by 2 cast-iron columns; doorway with fanlit panelled door to right, deep-set vestibule door with etched glazing, small window to left, commemorative plaque to Logie Baird below. Canted window to outer right closing loggia. Bipartite window to outer left. 2 canted dormers with finialled piended slate roofs.

E (SIDE) ELEVATION: canted window off-centre left, window to right.

S (REAR) ELEVATION: circa 1900 later single storey block adjoining with 3 windows to S elevation.

W (SIDE) ELEVATION: single storey projection to right with 2 windows and door to W, door on return to right. 2 windows recessed to left.

Mostly plate glass sash and case windows. Steep piended grey slate roof, ashlar corniced stacks, original cans.

INTERIOR: corniced ceilings; black marble chimneypieces to dining room.

Statement of Interest

Plaque inscribed "Joyhn Lodgie Baird. Inventory of television. Born in this house 13 August 1888".
