Memorial: unveiling ceremony, 25 June 1992. Cream sandstone ashlar. Stepped base, tall plinth surmounted by domed arcaded rotunda, ashlar urns with flaming torches in every 2nd bay of rotunda, ashlar dome with copper leaves
Rubble boundary walls. Fine 2-leaf cast-iron gates and railings with wreath, palm leaves and thistle wreath decoration.
The walled garden was part of the Hermitage House estate which was presented to the town council for $3,750 in order to create a park. The house, after use during the war as an auxiliary hospital, was allowed to deteriorate and was demolished in 1963. The War Memorial in the same league as those designed by the Imperial War Graves Commission, if on a diminutive scale.
