18th century with later alterations. 2-storey, 3-bay rectangular-plan, near-symmetrical, crowstepped gabled house forming part of terraced pair. Harled.
W (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: deep-set modern, part-glazed door at ground in bay to centre; window at 1st floor above. Window at each floor in bay to right. Enlarged bipartite widow at ground in bay to left; window at 1st floor above.
N (SIDE) ELEVATION: blank with gablehead stack.
2-pane timber sash and case windows; rooflight to W. Grey slate roof; harled, corniced gablehead stack to N; similar mutual stack to S; uPVC gutters; cast-iron downpipes.
INTERIOR: not seen, 1998.
Abutting Number 10 to the south (listed separately), this house retains its original crowstepped gables and small, symmetrically disposed openings at the 1st floor. The wide gap between these windows and the eaves is typical of town houses in both Orkney and Shetland.
