Description

18th century, incorporating earlier fabric, with later alterations. 3-storey and attic, 5-bay near symmetrical, rectangular-plan plain Georgian tenement block set back from street with various single storey shops projecting at ground to front elevation. Re-harled. Concrete cills.

SW (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: architraved, modern glazed door at ground in bay to centre; window at each floor above. Window at 1st and 2nd floors in each bay remaining.

NE (REAR) ELEVATION: irregularly fenestrated. Part-glazed door with blocked fanlight at ground in bay to centre; window at each floor above. Window at each floor in each bay to right flanking. Window at ground and 1st floor in bay to left of centre. Boarded door at ground with window at each floor above in bay to outer right.

SE (SIDE) ELEVATION: attic window set to right of centre; gablehead stack above.

2-pane timber sash and case windows; evenly disposed, small rooflights to SW pitch. Grey slate roof to SW pitch; banded grey slate roof to NE pitch; stone ridge; stone skews; plain stone skewputts; harled, coped gablehead stacks to SE and NW; predominantly uPVC rainwater goods.

INTERIOR; not seen, 1998.

Statement of Interest

Discreetly sited well back from Albert Street and with a number of single storey shops spanning the front elevation, this tenement block retains its original form; its plain symmetrical Georgian elevation remains intact behind the shops.
