19th century, much altered. Deep recessed entrance doorways to each shop; pilastered fronts to 41-46; slim pilasters frame doors; deep entablatures; painted cornices. Raised parapet; railings; mix of spear-head and fleur-de-lys finials; stairs at either end.
The shops are built into the vaults that are once below the terrace. This vaulted area once led to the cellars of the houses above; the white door between 50 and 51 still leads to the cellar of St. Helens, 12 East Terrace. This wall, along with the ones that run along Mid and West Terraces, is an integral part of the townscape.
