Description

Mid 19th century with later additions and alterations. Symmetrical 2-storey, 3-bay plain classical style house with single storey wing adjoined at rear forming near L-plan. Squared and snecked tooled cream sandstone to front; harled to sides and rear. Base course; long and short quoins and surrounds to openings; projecting cills.

SW (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: timber panelled door centred at ground; plate glass fanlight; single window aligned at 1st floor. Single windows at both floors in flanking bays.

SE (SIDE) ELEVATION: blind elevation to 2-storey block to left. Blind elevation to single storey addition projecting to right.

NE (REAR) ELEVATION: gabled wing projecting to outer left. Various single windows at both floors in bays recessed to right.

NW (SIDE) ELEVATION: not seen 1998.

8-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows to front. Grey slate piended roof; pitched roof to rear wing. Corniced, brick-built wallhead stacks to SE and NW; various cans; squat apex stack at rear.

INTERIOR: not seen 1998.

BOUNDARY WALL: low coped rendered wall enclosing site to front.

Statement of Interest

A relatively late, plain, fundamentally intact villa given contextual weight for its position fronting Ayton's High Street.
