Description

Later 19th century. Single storey, 3-bay cottage with lean-to to N. Whinstone (painted brick lean-to); brick surrounds to openings. Bracketed timber eaves; labelmoulds to W elevation openings.

W (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: central advanced gabled entrance; decorative scalloped skews; glazed timber door; letterbox fanlight; square plaque to gable; timber finial; flanking single windows. Square opening to recessed lean-to to outer left.

S (SIDE) ELEVATION: glazed timber door to outer right.

N (SIDE) ELEVATION: single strip window to lean-to.

E (REAR) ELEVATION: modern casement window to outer left; 12-pane window to outer right; single central window. Glazed timber door to recessed lean-to to outer right.

4-pane timber sash and case windows to W elevation; 12-pane and modern timber glazing to N elevation. Grey slate roof; rooflights; coped ridge stacks; polygonal cans.

INTERIOR: not seen 1999.

Statement of Interest

Additional ancillary structure to NE not included in the listing. The cottage is notable for its gothic inspired detailing especially the W elevation labelmoulds and the scallop work to the entrance porch.
