Description

17th century (?); 19th century alterations. High, random rubble, former vennel wall standing along W side of Port Street (approximately 84 metres long); incorporating former window and door openings (blocked) leading to former rigs; boulders protruding from base. Coped to W in later 19th century forming N boundary wall for The Priory (29 Townhall Street).

Statement of Interest

Formerly called Shore Wynd, this road was the main approach to Inverkeithing Harbour (see separate listing) and would possibly have joined the old Road to St David's (Dalgety Bay) along East Ness. When the Dunfermline and Queensferry Railway was constructed in 1877, Commercial Road was formed as the main road accessing the harbour taking the place of Port Street which had been rendered useless for vehicular traffic. Houses formerly lined both sides of Port Street.
