Description

James Abernethy and Company Ltd, Engineers, Aberdeen, 1924. Pedestrian, steel rope suspension bridge with sheet metal walkway and scissor-braced iron parapet. Pylon gateways on granite abutments; tapering, scissor-braced iron columns (1 with cast name plaque) linked by overthrow with round-arched opening and crenellated detail. Steel, wire rope stays.

Statement of Interest

The Bridge spans the River Dee. See also the rope suspension bridge at Birkhall. An elegant piece of sophisticated engineering contributing significantly to the estate landscape.
