Probably contemporary with Brynbella, built by Clement Mead for Hester Lynch Piozzi in 1795. The gate lodge was formerly a square building, now extended to an irregular outline.
A single-storey gatelodge, ashlar to front and roughcast to sides and rear, with hipped double-pile slate roof. Metal hip and ridge covers. Brick chimney in the valley between the front and rear piles. At rear left the side of the building diverts inwards to follow the line of the road. The front is in ashlar limestone with cornice and blocking course; two round headed windows and a central round headed doorway. The front windows are of the sash type adapted to the curve of the heads. Modern replaced door, the fanlight covered over. 16-pane sash-window at left side, four-pane window at rear. This gatelodge differs from the south lodge in lacking window shutters
The lodge stands at right angles to the gates. The gateway is of four ashlar piers, about 2 m high, with stone copings. Highly ornamented pair of wrought iron main gates, simpler side gates. The name Brynbella is carved on the left main pier.
Listed for group value with Brynbella and as a fine gatelodge complementing the design of the house.
