History

Chimney dated 1894, and built as part of Soames Brewery, which became the Border Brewery in 1932, and closed in 1984. F. W. Soames had acquired the site in 1879, when it was occupied by a smaller brewery associated with the Nag's Head Inn.

Exterior

Brick, with wrought iron bands. High base with recessed panels, surmounted by corbelled chamber incorporating dated terracotta panel with the initial 'S' (Soames Brewery), below octagonal shaft which terminates in moulded projecting stone cornice and cap.

Reasons for Listing

An excellent example of chimney design, highly ornamental, and surviving in its original condition.
