Church of St Nicholas

A Grade II* Listed Building in Penally, Pembrokeshire

C11 medieval cross, Church of St Nicholas and St Teilo, Penally

Uploader's Comments

Only the shaft remains of this heavier, later, type of cross. It stood originally in the churchyard on the north east side of the Church. The theme of the carving on it is reptilian with an acanthus scroll on the front. The foliage on both crosses is extremely rare in early Christian art in Wales. A cross in St Davids is the only other occurrence. (from the church guide). (Photo Oct 2010).
