History

Probably an early C19 bridge associated with the nearby Hay Railway line built 1812-16. Road and track run close together E of Llanfihangel, the road unusually being named suggesting perhaps a later or enhanced identity than the traditional network of country lanes; possibly provided easier access to Tal-y-llyn Junction station from N.

Exterior

Single arch road bridge over river built of rubble with dressed stone dressings. Recessed segmental river arch has voussoirs and keystone; abutments have a plinth. Parapets have flat coping fixed with iron cramps; both parapets and abutments are symmetrically curved.

Reasons for Listing

Included as a well designed early C19 road bridge.
