On the South wall of the tower, the first hatchment shews the quartered arms of Welby (Sable, a fesse between three fleurs - de - lis argent) and Towers (Sable a tower proper)- as first and fourth quartering, with those of Cholmeley (Gules in chief two esquires helmets proper, in base a garb or) in second and third. This is presumably the hatchment of a married daughterof William Welby of Denton who married Catherine Cholmeley of Easton, and whose mother was Mary Towers of Haddenham in the Isle of Ely. The black background, on the right as we see it, represents a wife as deceased. But above the shield is the Welby crest, as worn on mens war helmets. (Photo Sept 2012).
