The third shews the quartered arms of Welby and Towers impaling (the heraldic term for conjointing the arms for husband and wife) those of Cholmeley - so must be the hatchment of Richard Welby's son William (died 1792) and his wife Catherine Cholmeley. Both halves having a black background indicates both are deceased, but the Welby crest above the shield (an arm with a sword) makes it his hatchment. The motto -Mors Ianua Vitae-, Death is the Doorway to Life, refers to the hope of Resurrection. (Photo Sept 2012).
