Farmhouse. Probably C16. Timber-frame, brick infill four panels high,
brick rear elevation, slate roofs, end stack to left, large ridge stack
to right of centre. U-plan with wings projecting north-west on either
side of two-bay centre range. Two storeys and attics. North-west
elevation: virtually symmetrical, the cross-wings have jettied first
floors, that to the right from a moulded bressummer. Angle struts from
posts to ties and wall-plate. Left wing: central late C19 3-light case-
ment to ground floor, a similar window to left side of first floor with a
single light C20 window to the right. Main range: tallet stairs to first
floor door on right hand side; iron 3-light mid-C19 casement to left of
centre, one 2-light iron mid-C19 casement to left side of first floor;
mid-C20 plain tiled porch and 4-light mullioned window and beaded door
into its right hand side. Right wing: gable, unlike that of left wing,
has V-struts from collar. Ground floor has single light late C20
window to left and ledged contemporary stable door to right. First floor
has two sets of late C20 4-light casements with diagonal saltire cross
glazing bars. Late C20 attic light between V-struts to gable apex.
Interior: principal ground floor room in main range has stone flagged
floor, deeply chamfered beams dividing the ceiling into nine panels.
Right service wing is divided longitudinally; left wing, laterally;
winding dog-leg stairs rise through left wing at its junction with main
range. Blocked triangular headed entrance door to right hand wing is
masked by tallet stairs. (RCHM Vol II, p 138).
