Gates, Gatepiers and
Flanking Wall at West
- Entrance to Shipton Court
GV II
Gates, gatepiers and flanking walls. Circa 1903, perhaps re-incorporating C18
material. Ashlar walls and piers, wrought-iron railings and gates. C18 style. The
low ashlar wall with coping broken forward at regular intervals over wall buttresses
links the 2 sets of stables (qv) and adds to the symmetrical layout of Shipton Court
(qv). Tall ashlar gatepiers with pilasters, moulded cornice and ball finials, inner
corners chamfered. Large wrought-iron gates with good quality scroll-work and
leaves in upper parts, hinge panels enriched; flanking pedestrian gates with over-
throws in similar style.
