The font stands on a slab of alabaster, c1500, incised with a lady in a robe on one part and with Latin inscriptions on another. The blackletter script only remains in patches. The word Obiit is recognisable but it has been sharpened and recut. The alabaster pieces were possibly cut to oval shape using a steam powered saw in the nineteenth century. (Photo Nov 2013).
