House, now offices. Mid C18, altered C19 and C20. Coursed
squared sandstone with ashlar dressings. Slate roof, gabled to
the left and hipped to the right, and brick chimneys.
Rectangular plan.
Principal facade of 3 storeys and 5 bays, with, on the right
facing down Church Street, a return facade of 3 bays over a
cellar which has a door on the left and a blocked window on
the right. Both facades have raised quoins, plain surrounds to
all the openings, and an eaves cornice. The windows are sashed
without glazing bars. The doorway is recessed in the centre of
the 5-bay facade and is approached up 5 stone steps with iron
handrails; its reveals have raised and fielded panels. The
rear wall has a central full-height staircase window.
INTERIOR: the room at right-hand end of ground floor is fully
panelled, with a moulded cornice and raised and fielded panels
both above and below a dado rail, and also a shouldered
fireplace surround. An upper room contains a stone fireplace
with raised keystone. The full-height dogleg staircase, has an
open string, carved scrolled brackets, 2 turned balusters per
tread and a ramped and moulded handrail with a wreathed
curtail, but its topmost flights have a closed string with
less decoration.
