House. Early C17, extended in C18, C19 and C20. Timber-framed, mainly clad with red brick in Flemish bond, partly plastered, roofed with handmade red clay tiles. 3-bay main range facing approx SE with a central stack, forming a lobby-entrance plan. Later wing to rear centre, one bay. Originally of one storey and attics, the main range was raised to 2 full storeys clad in brick, and extended to the right in the late C18. Lean-to extensions of various dates and sizes across the full width at the rear, and C20 single-storey extension to rear right of them. 3 mid-C19 sashes of 3+3 lights on each floor, with segmental brick arches on the ground floor only. 4-panel door in C20 gabled porch. Hipped roof. The left elevation is of ashlared plaster, mostly covered by attached garages. The frame includes much elm, with primary straight bracing. INTERIOR: the left ground-floor room has a chamfered axial beam of elm, unstopped, and a wide wood-burning hearth with 0.23m jambs and chamfered mantel beam with lamb's tongue stops, reduced to half its original size with C19 brickwork; C18/early C19 2-panel pine door to stair behind stack. The ground-floor room to right of the stack has a chamfered transverse beam with lamb's tongue stops; 3 posts are similarly treated; C20 small wood-burning hearth. On the first floor the original wallplate is exposed in the rear wall, with a face-halved and bladed scarf, and lighter framing above it where the roof has been raised approx one metre. The upper left room has a floor of butt-edged hardwood boards. The middle room has 2 early C18 moulded 3-plank doors to left, and a plain boarded and battened door to right, all on original hinges. A plain battened door to the rear of the right ground-floor room is introduced, in a C20 frame.
