Description

TEWKESBURY

SO8933 HIGH STREET
859-1/5/231 (East side)
04/03/52 No.71

GV II

House in row. Early C19 front on earlier fabric, including C17
wing to rear. Flemish bond brickwork, timber-framing, slate
roof. C17 side-entry parallel plan: a small-scale compact
front which oversails Stephens Alley to the right. 3 storeys,
2-windowed. 16-pane sashes to brick voussoirs, but 4-pane at
ground floor each side of 6-panel fielded door in half-brick
arched opening to plain painted fanlight, and opening to
Stephens Alley similar. Basement opening far left. Parapet in
later brickwork. At back is square panel framed wing to wide
rear gable. This is on a smaller scale vertically than
adjoining properties, suggesting C17 date, with a re-fronting,
and may earlier have been 2 cottages. INTERIOR not inspected.
