House. c1845 for Joseph Foster, solicitor; extended c1905 for
J W Sankey, industrialist. Flemish bond brick with hipped
Welsh slate roofs and brick stacks. Double-depth plan. 2
storeys; symmetrical 3-window range to classical-style garden
front. Moulded string course, first-floor sill band and deep
band beneath projecting eaves. Doorway and window above set in
tripartite architraves with pilasters, paterae and cornices;
similar architraves to outer tripartite windows. Plainer side
and rear elevations with bold Edwardian doorcase to extension.
INTERIOR noted as having panelled doors and marble
chimneypieces, including one with fine decorative tile
surrounds depicting landscapes to ground-floor reception room;
fine Jacobean-style panelled room to ground floor of south
(c1905) extension including classical-style chimneypiece with
De Morgan tile surrounds.
