ST 68 SE WESTERLEIGH C.P. BADMINTON ROAD, Nibley (east side)

House. C15 origin, C16 closing of open hall, dairy added early C17, west end of
house completely rebuilt C19, C20 alterations and additions. Pennant rubble,
rendered at front, snecked pennant rubble to right return (west), brick, tiled
roof with ridge and gable stacks, some single Roman tiles. 3-room plan, through
passage, originally open-hall house. 2 storeys and 4 windows, all C20 wooden
casements, ground floor has 4-light and two 3-light casements, 2nd bay from right
has heavy pointed arched chamfered door frame with timber lintel, heavy door with
raised fillets over strap hinges, fist and wreath knocker, spy-hole and wooden
lock to inside; 2 large gables to left rising to ridge height, each with 3-light
casement, small dormer gable with 2-light casement over front door, larger gable
end of C19 rebuilding to right with 3-light casement. Right return has ground
floor 6-pane sash and 2 French windows, 2 smaller gables each with similar sash,
all with segmental heads; lower wing to right has C20 ground floor window and
small gable to ridge height with C20 window, single Roman tiles, C20 greenhouse
attached. Right return has 2 gable ends, of house to right and 2-storey possible
former dairy to left; to left, C20 ground floor window, blocked window at first
floor and small 2-pane light to right. Rear forms U-plan with additions, rear
of main house has lean-to at ground floor, C20 window under eaves, brick gabled
dormer to left; rear of wings have caried windows, all C20, lean-to attached
rear right. Interior: chamfered and stopped beams, south door frame ovolo-
moulded, 2 raisedcruck trusses remaining in roof, for further details see sources.
