Late C19 Stained glass window, in the north aisle. A lesson in Victorian morals. A damsel drawing water gently resists the advances of a swain. The ewe and lamb of a family are presented as white, but the ram, looking knowingly back at us, is shown stained with sin. Such allegorical amusements, drawn from Mallorys Morte DArthur, popularised by Tennysons poem, might well have carried the taint of racism if misapplied. Rain has leached away some of the highlights- a fairly common problem with some English church glass made in the 1860s. You can see the green of the churchyard through it. (Photo Apr 2008).
