SX 19 SW MINSTER

2/71 Rose Cottage
GV II
House. Circa C18. Rendered and painted stone rubble partly slate hung on front
elevation. Rag slate roof with hipped end on left and gable end on right, continued
with row of 2 cottages to right. Rear elevation with gable end. Stone rubble end
stack on left with brick shaft.
Plan altered. Originally continued to rear as row of alms houses, now demolished.
This house is all that remains and comprises a 2 room double depth plan with entrance
probably originally on front right leading into passage with stair to rear. Front
room heated by stack on left. Plan altered in circa mid to late C20 when the
entrance was moved to the left hand side elevation and a stair possibly inserted
adjoining entrance, lit by a C20 stair window. Entrance to alleyway between Rose
Cottage and house adjoining on right.
2 storeys with an almost symmetrical 2 window front; 2 C20 replacment 12-pane horned
sashes on ground and first floor with timber lintels. Entrance to alleyway on right
with slate hanging directly above. Left hand side elevation has part glazed door
near centre with C20 stair window to right. 2 small windows on ground and first
floor look down street.
