Formerly known as: Church of St John the Evangelist PARK HILL.

Parish church. 1836-38. By ME Hadfield. Altered c1890 by EM
Gibbs. Late C20 additions to north and east. Coursed squared
stone with ashlar dressings and slate and lead roofs. Gothic
Revival style.
PLAN: chancel, porches, nave, west tower and spire, chapels
and meeting rooms.
EXTERIOR: single bay chancel has to east a graduated triple
lancet. On either side, a lean-to porch with round-arched east
window. South porch has round-arched doorway.
To north-east, a single storey octagonal addition with flat
roof, linked to the original building by a corridor with a
transomed 5-light wooden framed window. On the north side, a
double door.
7 bay nave has plinth, buttresses, moulded eaves and coped
gables, the east one with a gable stack. On each side, 7 tall
single lancets with hoodmoulds. West end has diagonal
buttresses topped with pinnacles.
At the west end of the north aisle, a round-arched doorway.
Square west tower, 2 stages, has angle buttresses to the lower
stage, and clasping buttresses above, topped with pinnacles.
Lower stage has to west a Norman style doorway with dogtooth
ornament under a steep gable, and to north and south, a
round-arched window. Taller upper stage is blank to east and
on the other sides has 3 tall lancet bell-openings with a
clock above them. Octagonal broach spire has ornamental bands
and a single tier of 4 gabled lucarnes, plus finial.
To north, 2 linked mid C20 octagonal additions, yellow brick
with buttressed blue brick basements. Larger addition, to
east, has square truncated pyramidal roof. To south, a tall
5-light window, and to east, a flat-roofed projection with a
single lancet to east. Smaller addition, to west, has flat
roof and similar 3-light window. Corridor adjoining church has
2 tall single windows.
