GV II

Cutlery works, now in multiple occupation. c1875. For Joseph
Elliot & Sons, Ltd. Brick with ashlar dressings and gabled and
hipped slate roof with 2 side wall stacks and single ridge
stack set diagonally.
EXTERIOR: sill and impost bands, those to the first floor with
brick dentillation, gutter on wooden brackets, bays divided by
pilaster strips.
3 storeys; 7 x 5 windows, on corner site with obtuse angle.
Windows are plain sashes, those to the second floor with
segmental heads. Sylvester Street front has an off-centre
entrance bay flanked by panelled pilasters and topped with a
shouldered gable with finial. On the first floor, a
segment-headed double sash with central shaft, flanked by 2
sashes to left and 4 to right. Above, a similar window with
flat heads and above it, a round-arched panel inscribed
"Sylvester Works". Above this, a curved sign reading
"Cutlers". To left, 2 sashes, and to right, 4 sashes. Below,
ashlar doorcase with cornice and pilasters, and panelled door
with shouldered overlight, flanked by 2 sashes to left and 4
to right. Rounded corner, to left, has a single smaller sash
on each floor.
Left return has smaller windows in the same style, with a
blank on each floor to right. Ground floor has to left a
segment-headed cart entrance with keystone and board doors
bearing the firm's name. To its right, 2 windows.
INTERIOR not inspected.
A large scale integrated cutlery works.
