This device appears to me to represent a town and wool, hence Wollaton. Other images, decorating both sides of the arch, are Cross patonce (Freville), Sword (Kilpec), Snail shell (perseverance and deliberation), Engrailed saltire (Buttetort), Nine roundels (De la Zouche has 10), Bendy of ten (Mountford), Vair and a fess (Marmion), Owl (crest of Willoughby), Water bougets (Willoughby) and Water bougets quartering cross patonce.
