-10-- One of the Belvoir Angels headstones by a Hickling craftsman. Rectangular slate with 2 round-faced winged angels and raised letters, to Anne, wife of Thomas Hemsley d. April 9th 1731 aet 35. Poem: -The dame that resteth here nigh to this tomb/ Had Rachels face and Leahs fruitful womb/ Abigails wisdom Lydias faithful heart/ Marthas just care and Marys better part/ To grieve for her alas it is in vain/ For your great loss is her eternal gain/ Her peace we hope is made with God before/ She went from hence and shall be seen no more-. And below –For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart/ and to be with Christ, which is far better. Phillipians 1.23- . (Photo Sept 2012).
