War memorial. Probably 1920's. Rock-faced white granite, with bronze
statue. Square in section, consisting of a pillar raised on a pedestal of 4
stepped blocks each higher than the one below. The 3rd and 4th have lettered
panels in the front and sides:-
"IN GLORIOUS AND EVERLASTING
MEMORY OF THE MEN OF KNOTTINGLEY
WHO DIED IN THE GREAT WARS
1914-1918
1939-1945"
on the front of the lower, and names on the sides; and names on all 3 sides
of the upper. The pillar has a moulded cap surmounted by a statue of a
flying angel (supported with one foot on a ball), with flowing dress,
outspread wings, and arms holding aloft a wreath and a trump.
