Lodge in the form of a gatehouse. c1846, probably by the architect W J Donthorn, in
Perpendicular style. Built of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings with roof of
fishscale slates. Comprises central 2 storey carriage entrance with room above
flanked by 1 storey pavilions. East elevation has gabled central portion with
coping and finial flanked by octagonal turrets with pseudo-machicolations. Right
hand turret is larger and has lancet windows joined by hood moulding which also
connects with 2 2-light mullioned windows with leaded lights in the upstairs room.
Above this as a shield with angel below is a large 4-centred arch. The pavilions
have gable ends with kneelers, the left side pavilion has a cross window and the
right side pavilion has a single mullioned and transomed casement .Plinth. Arched
doorcase underneath carriage arch. West elevation is similar but the central
carriage entrance has no turrets but moulded brick octagonal chimney pots. Image
niche in gable.
