Inscription: On Mr Everard Digbe of Holywell/ When his pure soule from Holiwell did hast/ Of light and life the eternall springe to tast/ Within this stonie caskett was enclosd/ The dust of Everard Digbie here deposd/ Whose name still fresh like pretious ointment Finds /a sweeter cabynett in good mens minds/ Whose goodnes here in vaine ye readers seek/ Tis writ in tears on many a neighbring cheek/ And such sadd dropps doe more adorne an herse/ Than painted coate or brasse or flattring verse/ He maried with Ellen Sacheverell daughter of Ralphe Sacheverell of Barton esquier and by her had 5 sonnes and 7 daughters and dyed the 2 of Nover Anno Dom 1628. The shield of Arms: Azure a fleur de lys argent, a crescent for difference (Digby) impaling Argent on a saltire coped azure five water bougets or (Sacheverell). The Digby crest: an ostrich holding a horseshoe in its beak. (Photo Mar 2007)
