Entrance gatepiers and attached walling forming former west
gateway to Wingerworth Hall (now demolished). Late C18. Three
pairs of ashlar gatepiers, one pier now partially demolished,
arranged in group of 3 piers, all square on plan, either side
of the former approach road to the hall. Massive ashlar
gritstone piers, the 2 outermost of each group linked by a
short ashlar wall. Tall outermost piers extend to the level of
the eaves cornices of the adjacent lodges (Nos 35 & 37 New
Road, qqv), the moulding of the wall plinth linking with the
top of the base block of the middle pair of each group. The
outer piers have projecting moulded cornices and are
surmounted by urns. Except for the partly demolished pier (at
the south side of the driveway), the other piers have ball
finials and moulded cornices.
