Below the Norman masonry, an incised slab of Swithland slate -Hear lyes Friswid Bodin within this tombe/ Had Sarahs loyaltie Leas fruitfull wombe/ Abigalls wisdom Lydias open heart/ Marthas care and Maries better parte/ Had 12 children. (died) age 63. 1687. This is the kind of monument the Victorians would have re-cut: it confirms their Establishment view of an ideal woman. (Photo Oct 2007).
