SV8914 Gatehouse and attached wall to NE of
1358-0/7/122 Tresco Abbey

GV II

Gatehouse. 1843 for Augustus Smith. Roughly coursed granite
rubble; slate roofs. L plan. Picturesque Gothic stlye.
Entrance with rear lean-to continued to rear of 2-storey tower
to left; lower 2-storey block to right (south west) projects
at right angles to front. Plank double doors set in 4-centred
arch; corbelling beneath parapet. Tower to left has small
windows set in raised parapet and pyramidal roof. Block to
right has flight of steps to plank first-floor door set in
4-centred arch. Interior not inspected.
Subsidiary features: granite rubble wall extends approx. 40m
to south east towards Tresco Abbey (q.v.), and forms a
revetment wall between the raised entrance court of the house
and a lane to the north.
