Gatehouse to Devonshire Hall

GV II

Gatehouse and gates. Mid C19. Coursed square stone and ashlar,
slate hipped roofs, central part not visible, cast-iron gates.
Central round carriage arch flanked by single-storey 2-bay
cottages. Plinth.
West facade: each cottage has a central 4-panel door and
flanking paired glazing-bar sashes, all in moulded
architraves. The moulded eaves cornice is continued through as
moulded imposts to the tall keyed central archway which has a
modillion eaves cornice and pierced parapet with alternate
large and small roundels. Rear (to road): 2 narrow windows to
each cottage, rendered stack to outer corners. Double gates
have geometric patterns with paired circles and flower motifs
below lock bars.
