Ball monument approx. 10m south of
chancel of Church of St Cuthbert

GV II

Headstone. 1690s. Commemorates Jane, wife of John Ball of
Banks died 22 June 1692. Sandstone. Plain square slab with
inscription in large Roman capitals: HERE LYE THE / BODY OF
IANE / THE WIFE OF / JOHN BALL DE / BANCKS SEPUL. / IUNE THE
29 / 1692. The letters are rather crudely formed, and the "N"
of Bancks reversed.
Forms group with Church of St Cuthbert (qv), with Meadow
monument (qv) and with Sutton monument (qv).
