BRIGHTON
FALMER ROAD, Rottingdean
(East side)
New Barn

II

Barn and stabling. C18 and C19. Flint with dressings of red
brick and tiled roof. L-shaped in plan.
There appear to have been 3 builds: the north end of the barn
is probably a C18 5-bay barn with opposing cart entries, that
to the east full-height, but now blocked; blocked triangular
vents, and some openings inserted; original roof trusses with
raking queen posts to clasped purlins; principal rafters;
common rafters, some replaced; straight wind braces; then a
3-bay addition to the south, probably of early C19, with
blocked loading hatch and cart entry rebuilt; then lower range
of stables running west from the north end, probably of C19
date. Hipped roof, with gablet to south.
