Pair of houses, now house and flats with attached railings.
c1832 with later additions and alterations. Pinkish-brown
brick with painted stucco facades, Welsh slate roofs and
cast-iron verandah and railings.
PLAN: double-depth.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys with basement and attics, 4 bays arranged
2:2, with deeply-recessed entrance bays to sides, of single
storey to left and 2 storeys to right.
Main range, stucco detailing includes pilasters with
horizontal rustication to outer ends of ground floor
surmounted by pilasters with recessed panel to first and
second floors. First floor: 4 plate-glass French windows with
divided overlights. To right recess a 3/6 sash, sill. Second
floor: four 6/6 sashes, tooled architraves, sills. Frieze,
cornice, blocking course.
Entrances: to left recess, step to part-glazed, 5-panel door
with overlight within plain pilastered doorcase, frieze,
cornice. To right recess, 3 roll-edged steps to part-glazed
door with overlight and within pilastered surround, frieze,
cornice. Otherwise, four 6/6 sashes, tooled surrounds, sills.
All windows have plain reveals. Basement, from left: two 4/8
sashes and 2 casement windows. Attic has roof dormers. Central
and rear stacks. Returns have mainly blind openings. First
floor has continuous verandah with double-heart-and-anthemion
motif and circle motif to struts and with asphalt roof.
INTERIOR: noted as retaining original joinery including
shutters to some windows.
SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: gate and area railings to No.31 with
ornamental finials, end posts have anthemion finials.
HISTORICAL NOTE: Dale Street was laid out c1832, the east side
was built by 1834.
