Lodge at entrance to planned group of villas (qv). Early C19 by John Foulston. Stucco with stucco detail; dry slate roof with conical ends on projecting eaves; brick stack to right of ridge. Small plan with rounded ends. Single storey; 3-bay front with plinth and plain eaves entablature. Central window blind and flanked by rusticated pilasters; window with glazing bars to left-hand bay and recessed gate-pier with moulded cap on its left. INTERIOR: not inspected. SUBSIDIARY FEATURES: high rubble wall right of lodge; tripartite gateway left of lodge with trellised piers with scrolled caps. The wall was listed on 01/05/75. Part of a good group of villas by Foulston, set within their original; landscape and thus remarkable in a national context. (The Buildings of England: Pevsner N: Devon: London: 1989-: 674).
