Includes: The Old Assembly Room HOLYWELL CLOSE Parkgate
Village.
House, later assembly rooms, now three houses with railings
attached to front steps. Late C18 with C19 and C20 alterations
and balcony of 1865. Incised render on brick with cast-iron
balcony; slate roof with brick coped gables and rendered
stacks.
EXTERIOR: 3 storeys and basement; 5-window front. Two flights
of 9 steps each give access to early C20 front doors with tall
overlights: steps have balustrades of openwork panels and flat
handrails. Windows on all floors are recessed sashes with
single glazing bars, slightly segmental heads and painted
stone sills, on second floor extended as raised sillband.
First floor windows are fronted by elaborate balcony with
openwork balustrade supported at front on slender shafts with
traceried spandrels; returns to left and right are carried on
traceried brackets.
Left return has 3-storey, 1-window gable end with of 3-storey
1-window wing to left; further left is 2-storey 3-window wing.
Windows to 3-storey parts repeat those on main front.
2-storey wing has sashes with exposed weight boxes and glazing
bars.
