26/04/74 Random Cottage
(Formerly Listed as:
GREENMOUNT LANE
Random Cottage. Stonehouse
Farmhouse. Barn and Stables to east)

II*

Farmhouse, now cottage and outbuilding. Probably C16 (believed
to be dated 1541). Coursed and squared stone with stone
flagged roof.
EXTERIOR AND PLAN: 2 storey. The cottage has a 2 unit plan,
with entrance into hall. Doorway flanked by 4-light mullioned
window to left, and 6-light mullioned and transomed window to
right, both with hoodmoulds. Mullioned windows of 2 and 4
lights above. To the right of the cottage, the present
outbuilding may once also have been in domestic use. Blocked
doorway to its left (cut by a buttress), and present doorway
with 4-light mullioned window alongside. Rough stone in gable
end suggests that the building formerly extended further to
east.
INTERIOR: not inspected.
